Free for verified students.

Caselaw is the lowest-priced serious legal research and study tool any UK LLB / GDL student can access. We keep it that way by verifying students with their university email. Sign in with your .ac.uk address (or .edu, edu.au, ac.nz, edu.hk, edu.sg, ac.za) and click verify.

Checking your sign-in status…

How it works

  1. Sign in with the email your university issued you (typically .ac.uk, but we recognise the academic TLD of every jurisdiction we operate in).
  2. Click Verify my student tier on this page.
  3. We check the domain against our academic-institution list, flip the verified flag on your profile, and set tier expiry to 12 months from now.
  4. The tier benefits roll out as we wire pricing in the next release — no action needed from you, we'll email when it activates.

Universities recognised

Anything ending in one of these suffixes:

Plus an explicit list of Canadian and Irish universities (UofT, McGill, UBC, Alberta, Western, Victoria, Queen's, Osgoode, Ottawa, Dalhousie, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NB, TRU, Memorial, Lakehead — plus TCD, UCD, UCC, NUI Galway, DCU, UL, Maynooth, King's Inns, Law Society of Ireland, Griffith).

Not on the list? Email [email protected] from your university address. We add new universities as students request them — usually within 24 hours.

Why we do this

The legal-research industry has historically priced students out: Westlaw and LexisNexis cost £200–£500 per seat per month, BARBRI charges £3,000+ for SQE1 prep, BPP and ULaw charge £6,000+. The result is that UK law students don't actually use the best legal research tools during the years they need them most.

Caselaw is built around the opposite assumption: that students should have access to a tool that is genuinely better than ChatGPT for legal study, at a price that doesn't require approval from anyone. Verifying students is how we keep the price honest — we absorb the cost of free Year-1 access because we're betting on you remembering Caselaw when you're a partner buying enterprise software a decade from now.

It's the same playbook Notion ran with PMs, Figma ran with designers, and GitHub ran with developers. We think it works for law students too.

Frequently asked

Who qualifies for the verified-student tier?

Anyone enrolled at an academic institution we recognise — typically a domain ending in .ac.uk (UK), .edu (US), edu.au (Australia), ac.nz (New Zealand), edu.hk (Hong Kong), edu.sg (Singapore), ac.za (South Africa), or one of our explicit university domains for Canada and Ireland (Toronto, McGill, UBC, TCD, UCD, UCC, etc.). If your domain isn't on our list, email [email protected] from your university address and we'll verify you manually within 24 hours.

Why does Caselaw verify students?

We are deliberately the cheapest serious legal research and study tool a UK LLB student can access — a fraction of Westlaw, Lexis, BARBRI, BPP. Verifying that students are actually students lets us keep the price low without subsidising lawyers and law firms who can pay full price.

What does the verified-student tier include?

Year-1 LLB / GDL students: full access free for the academic year. Year-2 and Year-3 LLB students: discounted Pro tier (final pricing rolls out in the next release — we'll email you when it activates). SQE1 / SQE2 candidates: discounted SQE Premium with mock exams and adaptive flashcards. Full pricing detail at /pricing.

How long does my verification last?

12 months from the moment you verify. After that you can re-verify any time — typically once a year — to renew your tier benefits. We never auto-charge you a different price without notice.

Can I verify with a personal email if my university email is awkward?

Not in v1. Right now you need to sign in with the email your university issued you, then click verify. We're shipping a separate-email magic-link flow in the next release for students whose primary login is a personal address — until then, the workaround is to sign out, sign in with your university email, and link the accounts in /settings.

What happens to my account when I graduate?

Nothing changes immediately — your tier runs through 12 months from your last verification. After that, the price moves to standard graduate pricing (currently £11.99/mo). We don't ban graduates; we just stop subsidising their access. Plenty of trainee solicitors and pupils stay on Caselaw for the citation tools, OSCOLA engine, and case-brief library.
