The case originated in an application (no. 10543/03 ) against Ukraine lodged with the Court under Article 34 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (�the Convention�) by a Ukrainian national, Mr Yuriy Semenovich Leonov (�the applicant�), on 1 March 2003.
The applicant, who had been granted legal aid, was represented by Mr O.V. Levytskyy, a lawyer practising in Kyiv. The Ukrainian Government (�the Government�) were represented by their Agent, most recently Mr I. Lishchyna, of the Ministry of Justice.
On 11 February 2009 the applicant�s complaints under Articles 3, 5 � 4 and 6 � 1 of the Convention were communicated to the Government. Additional issues under Article 6 � 3(d) of the Convention were communicated to the respondent Government on 28 August 2013.
