Both 90-question timed mocks (FLK1 + FLK2) on the real 2h33 timer, with a full per-question score breakdown.

Practice by subject

FLK1 — seven subjects

FLK2 — seven subjects

Single-best-answer practice

SBAQ items in the SRA format — five plausible options, no negative marking, scenario-anchored.

Procedural memory

Flashcards drill the procedural details (CPR rule numbers, limitation periods, board-meeting notice) the SRA tests heavily.

Ethics in scenarios

Ethics questions sit inside other-subject fact patterns, just like the live paper.

Authority-cited rationales

Every right answer cites the controlling statute, CPR rule or case so you can trace it back to source.

Resitting SQE1?

A resit is won by attacking your two or three weakest subjects, not revising everything evenly again. Diagnose with the readiness page, drill the weak areas, then run timed mocks to fix your exam timing.

Useful next steps

SQE1 frequently asked questions

How many questions are in SQE1?

SQE1 has 360 single-best-answer questions in total, split across two papers: FLK1 (Functioning Legal Knowledge 1) and FLK2. Each paper contains 180 questions, sat in two 90-question sittings of 2 hours 33 minutes each.

How many questions are in SQE1 FLK1?

FLK1 contains 180 single-best-answer questions, delivered in two sittings of 90 questions. FLK1 covers Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Contract, Tort, the Legal System of England and Wales, Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU law, and Legal Services.

Is SQE1 multiple choice?

Yes. SQE1 is assessed entirely through single-best-answer questions (SBAQs). Each question gives a realistic client-based scenario followed by five answer options (A–E); you choose the single best answer. There is no negative marking, so an unanswered question scores the same as a wrong one.

What is the SQE1 pass mark?

There is no fixed published pass mark. The SRA sets the pass mark for each assessment using a standard-setting process (a modified Angoff method), so the threshold can vary slightly between sittings. Recent FLK pass rates have typically been around the high-50%/low-60% mark of questions correct, but candidates should treat the boundary as set per sitting rather than a fixed number.

What subjects are tested in SQE1?

SQE1 tests fourteen Functioning Legal Knowledge areas. FLK1: Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Contract, Tort, the Legal System of England and Wales, Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU law, and Legal Services. FLK2: Property Practice, Wills and the Administration of Estates, Solicitors Accounts, Land Law, Trusts, Criminal Law, and Criminal Practice. Ethics and professional conduct are assessed pervasively across both papers.

How long is each SQE1 exam?

Each FLK paper is sat in two sittings. For each paper you answer 90 questions in 2 hours 33 minutes, then a further 90 questions in another 2 hours 33 minutes, giving 180 questions per paper. FLK1 and FLK2 are usually sat on separate days within the same assessment window.
