What is caselaw?
Caselaw is a UK law study platform with AI-generated case briefs, OSCOLA-formatted citations, week-by-week revision notes from Oxford and Cambridge, past papers with model answers, an AI tutor trained on UK exam technique, and spaced-repetition flashcards. It's built specifically for LLB, SQE, GDL, BPTC, BCL, MJur, and Oxford BA Jurisprudence students.
Where do the case judgments come from?
Every full judgment is sourced from The National Archives (caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk) under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Briefs and analysis are AI-generated on top of that primary source.
Is caselaw free?
Yes — the Free tier gives you 5 daily searches, 5 AI tutor messages a day, 2 AI briefs a month, one entire flashcard module (Contract Law), and read access to a curated set of landmark cases. No card required to sign up.
How accurate are the AI-generated briefs?
Every brief structurally extracts ratio decidendi, obiter dicta, material facts, and significance from the linked judgment. We've verified hundreds against textbook accounts. That said, AI outputs can hallucinate — every brief links back to the primary judgment, and we recommend you verify before relying on a brief in an essay or exam.
Will my professor accept AI-generated briefs?
Briefs are study aids, not submissions. Use them to understand cases faster, then write your essays in your own words. We deliberately structure briefs to teach the analytical skills (IRAC, ratio extraction) that examiners reward — using them well makes your essays better, not worse.
Is my study data private?
Yes. We don't sell or share data. Your private notes, search history, and progress are yours. We never use your private notes to train AI. See /privacy for the full policy.
What's the difference between Pro and Elite?
Pro (£11.99/mo annual or £16.99/mo monthly) covers the full study platform — Oxbridge notes, AI briefs, AI tutor, flashcards, mock exams. Elite (£27.99/mo annual or £39.99/mo monthly) adds every past paper across every module on top.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. From your dashboard via the Stripe Customer Portal — no phone calls, no retention process. You keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Do you offer student discounts?
Pro at £11.99/month (annual) is already a fraction of Westlaw or LexisNexis individual pricing. We run launch discounts for specific universities — check /pricing for any active codes.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes — 7 days, no questions asked. Plus the statutory 14-day cooling-off right under the DMCC Act 2024 for new subscribers. Email [email protected].
What flashcard modules are included?
Free gets 1 module (Contract Law). Pro and Elite include every core UK law module: Contract, Criminal, Tort, Public Law, Land Law, Equity & Trusts, Constitutional, Administrative, EU/Public International Law, Roman Law, Jurisprudence, Family, and Company Law — across LLB, SQE1, GDL, CILEX, and BPTC.
Are notes covered for my specific course?
We have full week-by-week revision notes for Oxford BA Jurisprudence and Cambridge BA Law (Tripos), plus generic LLB, SQE1, GDL and BPTC syllabi. If a module you need isn't covered yet, email us — we prioritise based on student requests.
How is this different from my university's Westlaw / LexisNexis access?
Westlaw and Lexis are research databases — you find cases, you read full judgments. Caselaw is a study platform — you get AI-extracted briefs, spaced-repetition flashcards, quizzes, past papers with model answers, an AI tutor, and revision notes structured around the syllabus. Use both: them for primary research, us for study and revision.
What is OSCOLA and why does it matter?
OSCOLA (Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities) is the citation format used in UK law schools and most UK legal scholarship. Every case in our library has an OSCOLA-formatted citation ready to paste into your essay. /tools/oscola has a standalone generator.
Can I use caselaw on my phone?
Yes. The platform is mobile-optimised, with a bottom navigation bar for one-thumb use, swipeable flashcards, and a print stylesheet for when you want hard-copy briefs. Adding to your home screen installs it like an app.
What if I only need it for exam season?
Many students subscribe for 2–3 months during revision and cancel. There's no lock-in or cancellation fee. You keep access until the end of your billing period.
Do you offer past papers for my qualification?
We cover Oxford Mods + FHS, Cambridge Tripos, LLB exam papers from major UK universities, SQE1 sample assessments, GDL papers, and BPTC. Each comes with a model answer scored to the marking scheme, citations, and examiner tips. Past papers are a paid product or included on Elite.
How do I export my notes / flashcard progress?
From /settings you can export all your data as JSON (DSAR-compliant). Anki-format flashcard export is on our roadmap.
What if I find an error in a brief?
Every case page has a 'flag error' link. We review flagged items weekly and credit your account if you spot something material.
Can I get a refund?
7 days, no questions asked, on any new monthly or annual subscription. Plus the 14-day statutory cooling-off period for new subscribers. Email [email protected].
Who built this?
An Oxford law student. See /about for the story.
