The case originated in an application (no. 57884/00) against Romania lodged with the Court under Article 34 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (“the Convention”) by three Romanian nationals of Roma origin, Mr Sandor Kalanyos, Tamas Kalanyos and Istvan Rozsa (“the applicants”), on 19 July 1999.
The applicants were represented by the European Roma Rights Center (ERRC), an association based in Budapest (Hungary). The Romanian Government (“the Government”) were represented by their Agent, Mrs B. Rămăşcanu, from the Ministry of Foreign Affaires.
