In these judicial review proceedings, the applicant seeks an order quashing a decision of the respondent Tribunal of 23 May 2024 in which the Tribunal rejected his claim for international protection on the basis that it did not accept as credible his case that he was at risk of persecution if returned to Albania as a result of being targeted in a blood feud between his family and another family.
The applicant applied for international protection in Ireland on 18 May 2023.  His international protection case is that he fears that, if returned to Albania, he would be the subject of a further attempted attack or murder by the H. family or people acting on their behalf in the context of the blood feud between his family and the H. family.
When lodging his application for international protection on 18 May 2023, the applicant filled out an IPO questionnaire in which he set out an account of the blood feud and the reason why he feared for his life if returned to Albania.
On 28 June 2023, the applicant was interviewed (in an interview he dealt with in Albanian with the help of an interpreter) pursuant to s. 35(12) of the International Protection Act 2015 ("the 2015 Act") ("the s.35 interview").
The Tribunal, in its decision of 23 May 2024 ("the decision"), held that the applicant should be refused a declaration as a refugee and refused subsidiary protection status.
