Code of ethics
GetCaseLaw Limited publishes judgments and study tools about real people's cases. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
1. Education, not legal advice
GetCaseLaw is a study tool for law students. We do not give legal advice, predict the outcome of anyone's case, or try to influence whether someone goes to court.
2. Respect for the courts
We present judgments as the courts published them and always link to the official record. Our summaries are ours, are labelled as such, and never imply a court's endorsement.
3. Accuracy before publication
AI-assisted case summaries are only shown publicly once they have been checked against the judgment. Unchecked AI output is shown only to the student who asked for it, with a warning that it may contain errors.
4. Honesty about AI
Anything written with AI is labelled. AI answers to study questions are available to signed-in students and are not published to search engines.
5. Privacy of the people in judgments
We do not profile parties, witnesses or judges. We honour anonymity as published by the courts, hide a case as soon as we receive a removal request while we review it, and stop removed judgments from being added back.
6. Fairness and bias
Every quarter we review a sample of AI-generated summaries and answers for errors and bias (for example in how parties, judges or groups are described) and fix what we find.
7. Respect for sources
We only use sources whose terms allow our use, credit them, and link back. We do not bulk-download sites whose terms forbid it.
If you appear in a case and want it removed, use our removal request form. For anything else, including a concern about something we have published, email [email protected]. See also how we build & verify and our sources.
