Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 2 May 2026
We want students using caselaw because it works for them, not because they feel locked in. This page sets out your right to cancel, your statutory and contractual refund rights, and exactly how to action either. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Your right to cancel
- 14-day cooling-off period (statutory). If you are a new subscriber and a consumer based in the UK, you have a 14-day cancellation right under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 ("DMCC Act") starting on the day the subscription begins. Cancel within this window and we refund 100% of what you have paid, even if you have already used the Service.
- 7-day no-questions money-back guarantee (contractual). On top of the statutory right, we offer a 7-day no-questions refund on every new monthly or annual subscription. This applies in addition to โ not instead of โ the DMCC Act cooling-off period.
- Cancel anytime, no fees. Outside the cooling-off and guarantee windows, you can cancel any subscription at any time. There is no cancellation fee and no lock-in contract. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
2. How to cancel
Pick whichever route is easiest:
- From your dashboard. Sign in โ Dashboard โ Billing โ Cancel subscription. Cancellation is instant; no email confirmation needed from a human.
- From the Stripe customer portal. The dashboard link opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel, switch plans, update card details, or download invoices.
- By email. Send a one-line message to [email protected] from the email address on the account. We action it within one business day and reply with confirmation.
We do not require a phone call, a form, or a reason. Per DMCC Act 2024, ending a subscription must be no harder than starting one โ and it isn't.
3. How refunds are processed
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method via Stripe. Most appear within 5โ10 business days, depending on your bank.
- For 14-day statutory cancellations: full refund of all amounts paid for the cancelled subscription period.
- For 7-day money-back guarantees: full refund of the most recent payment for the new subscription.
- Outside those windows, monthly subscriptions are not refunded for the current period โ you simply keep access until the period ends and renewal stops.
- Annual subscriptions cancelled outside the cooling-off window: no automatic pro-rata refund, but you keep access for the full year you paid for. We consider hardship-based pro-rata refunds case by case โ email [email protected] with the reason.
4. Auto-renewal & reminder emails
- All paid subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. Monthly plans renew every month. Annual plans renew once every 12 months.
- Per DMCC Act 2024 ยง256, we send a renewal reminder email at least 5 days before each annual renewal and at least 1 day before monthly renewal of long-running plans, with a one-click cancellation link.
- The reminder includes: the renewal date, the amount, the plan name, and direct links to your dashboard and to the Stripe portal so cancellation is one click away.
- You can opt out of marketing emails at any time, but renewal reminders are transactional and required by law โ they cannot be turned off while your subscription is active.
5. Exceptions and edge cases
- Repeat-trial abuse. The 7-day no-questions guarantee is intended for first-time subscribers. If we identify multiple new accounts created from the same person, household, or payment method to claim repeat refunds, we may decline subsequent guarantee claims (the 14-day statutory right still applies the first time).
- Promotional plans. Discounted promo plans (e.g. launch pricing, referral discounts, student-verified rates) are still covered by the statutory 14-day cooling-off and the 7-day guarantee on the discounted amount.
- Annual plan converted to monthly. If we mid-year switch a plan at your request, the cooling-off window does not restart on the conversion. Statutory rights attach to the original purchase.
- Chargebacks. If you have already opened a chargeback through your bank, contact us first โ we will almost always resolve it faster ourselves than your bank can. Unrebutted chargebacks may result in account suspension under our Acceptable Use Policy.
6. Where to send disputes
If you believe a refund has been declined wrongly, write to [email protected] with your account email and a short summary. We respond within 5 business days. If you are not satisfied with our response, UK consumers may escalate to the Citizens Advice consumer service or pursue a claim under the DMCC Act 2024 / Consumer Rights Act 2015.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always available at /refund; the "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when. Material changes affecting current subscribers are notified by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
This Refund Policy works alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy.
