The essay question
Make the best argument you can for full government funding of undergraduate education.
The plan
Stance: FOR — full government funding is not only economically viable but morally and socially necessary.
Author's own note: similar but not the same as "should the government partially fund undergraduate education."
Definitions
- Full government funding: all tuition and core costs of undergraduate study met by the state, not students, through taxation.
- Undergraduate education: first-cycle tertiary education at universities or equivalent institutions.
- Argument for: focus only on strongest reasons supporting funding, not balance.
- Assumption under challenge: That education is a private good where private benefit outweighs public benefit.
