LNAT Section B · Founder's essay plan
The essay question
Can the use of alternative energy sources alone solve the global energy crisis? Discuss the challenges.
The plan
Stance
Against (alternative energy alone is insufficient — it must be paired with efficiency, behavioural change, and transitional mechanisms).
- Jurisdiction focus: International (global energy markets, IEA, UN, EU, etc.)
- Word target: 750.
Definitions
- Alternative energy sources: Renewable and low-carbon sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, tidal, nuclear (if defined as "alternative"), excluding fossil fuels.
- Solve: Provide a sustainable, secure, and equitable long-term solution to global energy demand without catastrophic environmental or economic consequences.
- Global energy crisis: The dual challenge of (a) rising demand for affordable energy, especially in developing countries, and (b) climate change and environmental degradation caused by fossil fuel dependence.
- Alone: Exclusively — without complementary measures such as demand reduction, carbon capture, or systemic changes.
