Bristol Law (LLB) — Course Guide & How to Excel
6 min read
The University of Bristol LLB is a three-year qualifying law degree with a strong research-led teaching reputation. It satisfies the academic stage for both the SQE and the Bar, balancing doctrinal rigour with socio-legal perspective.
Core modules. The foundations of legal knowledge anchor the degree: contract, tort, criminal law, public law, land law, equity & trusts, and EU/retained law, alongside legal skills. These are the highest-yield subjects to master early.
Assessment. Bristol uses a mix of unseen exams and coursework, with problem questions and essays the main formats. As everywhere, the marks follow application: a cited rule, applied to the facts on both sides, beats a recital of the law every time.
How to revise efficiently. Build recall with flashcards, learn ratios fast from structured case briefs, and test yourself on timed past papers with model answers — the first model answer on each is free. New to case reading? Start with how to read a judgment.
