Quebec civil law

Quebec is the only Canadian jurisdiction whose private law derives from the civil-law tradition, codified in the Civil Code of Quebec (CCQ). Quebec v A (2013) on de facto cohabitee regimes. The bijural framework requires the SCC to read federal statutes against both common-law and civil-law backgrounds.
